Senior Consultant, Patient Services (Strategy and Implementation)

As a Senior Consultant, Patient Services, Trade & Distribution with Blue Matter, you will join a startup firm with a dynamic and growing team of seasoned consultants, and have the opportunity to help grow and build the company. You will work collaboratively with senior internal and client team members to address critical business issues in biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, and deliver value through providing innovative and actionable solutions to our clients.
Primary Responsibilities
- Execute on assigned project tasks
- Prepare materials for project meetings
- Execute analysis of primary and secondary research efforts
- Create and utilize analytical tools to support decision making
- Develop materials communicating results of analyses
- Identify key insights, recommendations, opportunities, and threats to inform corporate and
commercial strategies - Demonstrate accountability for completion of project responsibilities
- Regularly engage senior level clients
- Understanding of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries with a focus on market
access related roles (i.e. pricing, contracting, market access analytics, payer mix, provider
mix, channel strategy, specialty pharmacy and IDN dynamics, patient services and patient
access) - Demonstrated ability to integrate business and industry knowledge in developing creative
solutions - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Solid time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in team environment
- Proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel
Patient Services
- Deep fluency across the hub services ecosystem, including benefits verification, prior
authorization, appeals support, copay assistance, patient assistance programs (PAPs), and
free drug programs - Working knowledge of the hub vendor landscape (e.g., AssistRx, Lash, CareMetx,
TrialCard/Mercalis) with the ability to advise clients on build vs. buy decisions - Experience designing patient services models tailored to therapeutic area dynamics,
including distinct patient journeys across oncology, rare disease, and specialty immunology - Proficiency in adherence and persistence program design, nurse educator and field
reimbursement manager (FRM) models, and patient-reported outcomes integration - Familiarity with digital patient engagement platforms and emerging technology enablers
across the patient journey - Command of operational performance metrics, including time-to-therapy, prior authorization
approval rates, and funnel abandonment rates
- Strong channel strategy expertise across the “big three” wholesalers (Cardinal, McKesson,
AmerisourceBergen/Cencora), specialty distributors (ASD, Besse, McKesson Plasma &
Biologics, Cardinal Specialty), and specialty pharmacies (Accredo, CVS Specialty, Optum,
and LDD networks) - Working knowledge of distribution service agreements (DSAs), fee-for-service economics,
inventory management agreements, chargeback processing, and 340B program dynamics - Understanding of pricing strategy intersections with trade, including WAC, ASP, and net price
concepts, gross-to-net bridges, Medicaid best price considerations, and the impact of the
Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) on channel economics
- Experience with distribution network design, including open, limited, and exclusive
distribution model trade-offs - Knowledge of cold chain and specialty product handling requirements
- Familiarity with DSCSA and serialization compliance obligations
- Understanding of returns and recalls management processes
- Working knowledge of REMS program logistics and operational requirements
- For cell and gene therapies, familiarity with apheresis-to-infusion chain of custody
requirements
- Advanced degree(s) (PhD, MD, MBA, or MS) with 2+ years of consulting experience or Undergrad degree with 3+ years of consulting experience o
- 3+ years of biopharma industry experience
